We are still just only starting to begin to see the ways the Los Angeles Lakers and the basketball world are honoring the memory of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi, and seven others in a helicopter crash eight days ago. One of the biggest events on the basketball calendar will also be the site of tributes to Bryant, with both teams in the NBA All-Star Game wearing numbers to honor Kobe and Gigi.
The NBA announced last week that Team LeBron will wear No. 2, the number that Gigi wore while playing for her Mamba Academy Team, while Team Giannis will wear No. 24 in the game. James was asked about why he chose to wear No. 2 on Monday and he said the choice was inspired by his own daughter Zhuri, according to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.
James has tried to look for ways to honor Zhuri and honor women even more in recent years. Last year he released a special version of his Nike signature shoe exclusively for women, the Nike LeBron 16 Harlem Fashion Row. He said that his daughter was a major inspiration for that choice as well.
