LeBron gets triple-double, credits Dwight Howard for ‘Superman’ performance

LeBron James notched his second straight triple double and Dwight Howard had a fantastic performance, pushing the Los Angeles Lakers to their fifth straight victory and a 5-1 record after beating the San Antonio Spurs, 103-96.

James had 21 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists as he continues to add to his league-leading assist total. Meanwhile, Dwight Howard had 14 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and two assists in 21 minutes off the bench on the night as he continues to eat into JaVale McGee’s minutes. Anthony Davis continues to fill it up offensively as well, scoring a team-high 25 points to go with 11 rebounds.

But the story of the night was unquestionably Howard, who LeBron referred to as “Superman” in his postgame interview with Spectrum Sportsnet. Howard was awesome defensively but he was better offensively than he’s been all season, going a perfect 7-of-7 from the field including this throwback dunk over Spurs center Jakob Poeltl.

Howard had several plays tonight where he seemingly saved the Lakers, helping them survive a late injury from Avery Bradley and a late scoring binge by Spurs guard Dejounte Murray where he scored 14 straight San Antonio points.

Up next for the Lakers after going 5-1 is a date with the lowly 2-5 Chicago Bulls.
