Lebanon: Geagea Says Lebanese People Reject Hezbollah’s Hegemony

Lebanese Forces party leader Samir Geagea rejected Hezbollah’s claims accusing the LF of setting an ambush for Amal and Hezbollah supporters that left seven dead and several others wounded.

In a televised speech on Wednesday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah blamed the Lebanese Forces for the deadly Tayyouneh clashes in Beirut.

Nasrallah's words were "full of fallacies, lies and rumors," said Geagea, considering the incidents as "ominous.”

In response to reports that he was called to testify before the Government's Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Fadi Akiki, over the Tayyouneh clashes, Geagea said that he is ready for that, provided Nasrallah is summoned to testify first.

The LF chief stressed that Hezbollah’s goal was to hamper investigations into the colossal Beirut Port blast, voicing doubts about the party’s responsibility.

Geagea pointed to enormous political and judicial pressures aiming to replace the lead investigator into the port blast, Judge Tarek Bitar.

In response to Hezbollah’s accusations that the LF seeks to ignite a civil war in Lebanon, Geagea noted that “the entire Lebanese reject Hezbollah’s hegemony and perceive Hezbollah as an illegal party.”
