INDORE: As many as 100 excited participants walked inside Indore zoo learning about the nocturnal animals and their activities late evening on Wednesday.
Participants were strictly instructed not to make noise, or make use of mobile flashlight to ensure that the animals are not disturbed making it equally exciting and terrifying for all.
‘Zoo Snooze’ a unique walk is organised as a part of wildlife week for Indoreans to experience the night life and the activities that take place after zoo is closed in the evening.
“National parks organize Safari’s which are done via four wheelers. What makes Zoo Snooze unique is that Indore zoo is the only zoo across the country to organize a night walk,” Zoo curator and education officer, Nihar Parulekar told TOI.
This event is designed to involve general public to the cause of wildlife conservation, he added.
The participants which included Indoreans of varied age groups including 15 minors were divided in seven groups and Divyam Jaiswal, a four-year-old who was one of the youngest participants of the walk seemed extremely excited as he has come out in the late hours first time amidst the pandemic along with his parents.
Besides witnessing sloth bears, elephant, leopard, tigers including black, white and orange Tigers, Lions, Civet, Porcupine, Hyena, Crocodile, Gharial and wolves Indoreans were informed about the feeding patterns, general information and stories associated with the nocturnals. Participants even witnessed the carnivore feeding which is prohibited in the usual setting.
Varnika Pandey and Poorvi Sahu both 10-year old friends who were one of the most excited lot said, “We didn’t know Moti, the oldest animal of the zoo is a grade four agressive animal and used to play mouth organ. He is the elephant who had put garland on the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.”
