Learner's car seized by police as 'lesson' was supervised by 15 year old

A learner driver's car was seized by police after officers discovered his "lesson" was being supervised by his 15-year-old daughter.

Traffic cops pulled over the Vauxhall Meriva in Donnington, Telford, at about 11.15am on Sunday (May 29). The motorist had his vehicle, which was displaying L plates, seized after telling officers that he was being supervised by his teenage daughter.

He was also reported for driving in breach of licence conditions and without third party insurance.

Officers from Shropshire's Operational Patrol Unit (OPU) tweeted: "We asked this learner driver who was supervising them. 'My 15 year old daughter'. Our survey said... X. Vehicle seized. Driver reported #police #car #wronganswersonly"

By law learner drivers must be supervised by somebody aged at least 21 who has held a full driver's licence for at least three years. If there is no adequate supervision, the learner driver could receive a fine, penalty points or even a driving ban.

The supervising driver is deemed to be in control of the vehicle, and must therefore sit in the front passenger seat.
