LB Antjuan Simmons has breakout game vs. Tulsa with dad watching from prison

The big Michigan State story of the week wasn’t the win against Tulsa, or the hype around the basketball team, or any recruiting news. It was this story from Jeff Seidel, published on the Detroit Free Press. If you haven’t read it, stop reading this and go read that first. It is a story about Antjuan Simmons’ extremely supportive father, who also happens to be in prison due to his secret life as a drug dealer. Now, in his first season-opening start, Antjuan had a breakout game, and his dad was cheering on from prison.

I am not going to speak too much on that story, because Jeff Seidel did the great work and deserves for you to go read his piece, but I did want to take a moment and talk about how cool it is that Simmons had the game he had yesterday after this piece just came out.

Simmons was all over the field last night, ending with 2.5 tackles-for-loss, 6 hard-hitting, soul-crushing tackles total, an interception, and a sack. He really emerged as a player to watch after last night’s game with his crushing hits and anticipation on the field.

Antjuan Simmons is on his way to becoming the fan-favorite Spartan this season.
