Lawrence Shankland makes Scotland goal admission as he opens up on dream moment

Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland says he was delighted to repay Steve Clarke's faith in him by scoring his first Scotland goal.

The in-form marksman raised some eyebrows as he was called up to the national squad for the Euro 2020 double header against Russia and San Marino.

Shankland came on at half-time during the 4-0 defeat against the Russians, but lead the line against the European minnows as he got off the mark for his country in the convincing 6-0 victory.

The former Ayr forward, who has scored 15 times in 13 games this season for his club, was over the moon to open his Scotland account but admitted it was probably the easiest goal he'll ever score.

He said: "It's good to see everybody with a smile back on their face after a good performance and a good win.

"I'm delighted to get my (home) debut. It was obviously a bonus to get a goal as well but more importantly we got the result that we wanted.

"To get a start for your country is obviously great and getting a goal as well, I was just delighted.

"It's my job. I'll get in positions to get goals and thankfully that one's come off the bar and landed right at my feet so I'll probably not get an easier one, but I'll take it all day."
