Lawless motorcyclist caught going 70mph over the speed limit in East Lothian

A motorist was caught going 70mph over the speed limit on the A1.

Officers have been carrying out speed checks on the busy road that runs through East Lothian over the weekend.

They managed to clock a motorcyclist speeding down the road at 140mph - despite the speed limit being 70mph.

The 57-year-old man is due to appear in court following the incident.

A statement from Police Scotland's road unit read: "Man, 57, to be reported after Suzuki motorcycle detected travelling at 140mph in a 70mph limit on the #A1 near Gladsmuir, East Lothian.

"He is expected in court at a later date."

It comes as police were cracking down on drivers speeding near local schools in Edinburgh.

Community officers and the road police unit carried out speed checks and school patrols in the north west of the capital.

Several drivers were issued with warnings from police, while two drivers were hit with speeding tickets.
