Lautaro Martinez to Arsenal: Inter Milan star's agent speaks out on transfer speculation

Lautaro Martinez's agent has poured cold water over transfer speculation linking the Inter Milan star with Arsenal.

As Mikel Arteta searches for a long-term solution to the Gunners' striking problem, Martinez has emerged as a target.

But Alejandro Camano insists that his client is happy in Serie A, having lifted the title last season.

"Lautaro doesn't think about himself, he only thinks about Inter," Camano stated, via Football Italia. "He wants to help and wants fans to be happy. Inter haven't scored many goals lately, but it's just a process and will return to scoring, that's for sure.

"Lautaro wants Inter to win, he is not interested in personal success. We must remain calm because Lautaro is happy at Inter and is happy with Inter fans."

Martinez had looked set for a move to Barcelona before the Covid-19 pandemic struck in 2019, but remained at Inter and proved key in their title triumph last term.

Now Eurosport claim that Arsenal - desperately seeking a strike this summer - are prepared to offer him a deal worth £275,000-a-week to prise him away from San Siro.

Back in October, the 24-year-old put pen to paper on a new five-year contract which keeps him at Inter until June 2026.

Martinez has scored a solid 11 goals from 23 league appearances this campaign after returning a total of 17 last time out.

He then helped Argentina win the Copa America last summer to cement himself as one of Europe's most feared marksmen.

And Chelsea flop Romelu Lukaku even pleaded for him to stay at Inter in his bombshell interview in December, after their strike partnership last term fired the Nerazzurri to Serie A glory.

Could Martinez head to London?

While Arteta is happy with his current options, both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah 's contracts expire at the end of the season which leaves them with no recognised senior striker.

Emile Smith Rowe has been tipped as a potential No.9 option by his boss, with the Gunners failing to sign any of their targets in the January transfer window.

"We have Laca and we have Eddie with us and they are both more than capable of scoring goals and they have shown that over the years with us," Arteta said in February.

"Again, when we have to replace or improve the squad, it can only be with a player that we are certain of.

"First of all, that they're the right person and the right character to join and then they're a player with the quality to straight away impact the performance of the team and our capacity to build a future around him as well."

However, a top-level No.9 is understood to be the Gunners' main summer transfer target.
