Latest Tottenham transfer rumours: Pope battle, Barcelona consider Vertonghen, Rose update

The summer transfer window cannot open quickly enough for Jose Mourinho. The Tottenham Hotspur manager has seen his squad seriously depleted by injuries and so the North London club could enter the market to sign some reinforcements.

Of course, Spurs spent big on the signing of Steven Bergwijn in January, with Giovani Lo Celso signing on a permanent deal and Gedson Fernandes joining on loan from Benfica. More, however, will be required to replenish Mourinho’s squad.

Here are all the latest Tottenham transfer rumours.

Chelsea battle for Nick Pope

Tottenham Hotspur will battle Chelsea for the sighing of Burnley’s Nick Pope as both clubs search for new goalkeepers, according to the Daily Star .

The 27-year-old has impressed for the Clarets in the Premier League over the past two seasons and is seen by Mourinho as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris following a number of recent mistakes made by the Frenchman.

Lloris has kept just two clean sheets in 18 appearances in all competitions this season, also missing much of the 2019/20 campaign through injury. Pope is pushing for a place as England’s number one and would surely boost his international prospects by joining Tottenham.

Vertonghen an option for Barcelona

Barcelona view Jan Vertonghen as a “very valid option” with the Belgian defender out of contract at Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season, according to Sport ( via Sport Witness ).

The Camp Nou club will reportedly focus on players who will be free agents this summer and so Vertonghen is one of the players they could move for.

The 32-year-old has already been linked with a move to Inter, but a switch to Barcelona would surely be most appealing. Thiago Silva and Thomas Meunier are also believed to be on the radar of the Catalan club.

Rose backed for permanent exit

Former England and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson says Danny Rose is certain to join “great club” Newcastle United, according to Football Insider .

Rose made the loan switch to St James’ Park from Spurs in the January transfer window having fallen out of favour in North London, making five appearances for the Magpies.

Robinson now believes Steve Bruce will move to sign the left-back permanently once the summer transfer window opens. I can see Danny Rose signing permanently,” the former goalkeeper said.

“It is a move away from Spurs like he wants. In all fairness to him when he moved there was a European Championship to aim for and he was way behind Ben Chilwell in the pecking order.

"Newcastle is a great club to play for - the supporters, the stadium and a manager in Steve Bruce that Danny Rose will respond to.”
