Vertonghen wanted by Italian trio
Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is being chased by Serie A rivals Napoli and Roma, as well as Inter Milan, according to reports in Italy.
The Belgian defender is out of contract at the end of the season, and while a new contract has not been ruled out, Spurs are said to be preparing for his departure.
Inter Milan have been heavily linked with a swoop for the former Ajax defender, with Antonio Conte even willing to let Tottenham have Diego Godin in return.
Conte is not the only man eager to bring Vertonghen to Italy, with Gazzetta Dello Sport claiming that Roma and Napoli have also registered an interest.
Roma are said to be working on a deal to keep Chris Smalling after his successful loan move from Manchester United, although it is believed a permanent deal may be out of the club’s price range.
Meanwhile, Napoli are exploring replacements for Kalidou Koulibaly. The Senegalese defender has been linked to Man Utd, with Vertonghen seen as a cost-effective replacement at the heart of defence.
Mourinho makes transfer decision
Jose Mourinho has reportedly dialled back his interest in Inter Milan defender Diego Godin ahead of a potential move this summer.
Mourinho was said to be chasing Godin while in charge at Manchester United, but the club were unwilling to sanction a deal for the defender before being sacked. The Portuguese is once again in the market for a defender with Jan Vertonghen out of contract in the summer and Toby Alderweireld entering the final 12 months of his deal.
Spurs, along with United, have been touted with interest in Godin, 34, who is seen as a cheap short-term option.
Italian outlet Tuttosport are now reporting that Spurs have ‘cooled down’ their interest, while United remain keen. Godin has one year left on his deal at Inter, although it is unclear what the future holds for the defender at the San Siro.
Spurs join midfielder hunt
Tottenham, Everton and Leicester City are all reportedly keeping tabs on Angers ace Baptiste Santamaria.
Santamaria, 25, has drawn comparisons to N’Golo Kante for his ball-winning qualities in defensive midfield. Now, according to the Daily Express, Leicester have been keeping a close eye on the midfielder this season amid interest from Tottenham and Everton.
Aston Villa are also said to have had an approach for the midfielder rejected last year. He has made 30 appearances in Ligue 1 this season and joined Angers from Tours.
