The Italian shot stopper is currently with Ligue 1 side Monaco and has been their third choice keeper in recent seasons.

It's believed that both sides are "keen" to make the deal happen, but the Monégasques would need to replace the 33-year-old before the transfer window closes.

There's been plenty of speculation around the goalkeeping situation at Sunderland this summer after the departure of Remi Matthews.

Lee Burge was the undisputed number one last season and was named in the League One team of the season, however fans have been less than impressed with a number of errors from the 28-year-old.

Lee Johnson has also spoken at length about how well Anthony Patterson has done in pre-season and at the start of the Campaign.

The academy graduate pulled off a match winning save in the Carabao Cup at Blackpool with the game evenly poised. Aiden O'Brien would go on to wrap up his hat-trick moments later to set up a Third Round tie against Wigan.
