Latest coronavirus infection rates for Greater Manchester as cases fall in all 10 boroughs

Coronavirus infection rates are plummeting across Greater Manchester.

The number of cases is significantly down in all 10 boroughs.

Across the region as a whole, the infection rate is now 66.5 cases per 100,000 population.

The national average is currently 38.

A total of 1,886 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on April 2, according to the latest data from Public Health England.

That's down by 738 cases compared to the previous week - a drop of 28 per cent.

But despite the downward trend the infection rate remains higher than the national average in all 10 local authorities in Greater Manchester.

Tameside now has the highest infection rate in the region, replacing Bolton.

The borough recorded a rate of 79.5 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending April 2.

Trafford (53.1) has the lowest rate in Greater Manchester.

In the week ending April 2 there were 17 Covid-19 deaths recorded across the region - 17 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The largest fall in cases was in Wigan, which saw a 37 per cent week-on-week fall.

The borough's infection rate is now 59.0 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 194 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, 115 fewer than the previous week.

Manchester recorded 401 coronavirus cases, which is 162 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The city's latest infection rate is 72.5, down 29 per cent week-on-week.

There were 221 positive tests over the last week in Bolton, 88 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Bolton is down by 28 per cent with the infection rate at 76.9.

There were 161 positive Covid-19 tests in Rochdale in the week ending April 2, 69 fewer than the previous seven days.

That's down by 30 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Rochdale is 72.4.

In Oldham, the latest infection rate is 76.8 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 29 per cent.

A total of 182 people tested positive for Covid over the seven days ending on April 2, 74 fewer than the week before.

Trafford recorded 126 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 2, 35 fewer than the previous seven days.

The borough's infection rate is now 53.1, down by 22 per cent week-on-week.

In Stockport, the number of cases is down by 21 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 56.6.

There were 166 positive Covid-19 tests in the borough in the week ending April 2, 45 fewer than the previous seven days.

Salford saw a total of 153 cases in the week ending April 2, 50 fewer than the previous week. That's a fall of 25 per cent.

Salford's infection rate is now 59.1.

There were 180 positive Covid-19 tests in Tameside, 68 fewer than the previous seven days.

Bury's latest infection rate is 53.4 .

There were 102 cases recorded in the borough, which is 32 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 24 per cent.
