Latest confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths in Bristol on Saturday, May 2

Bristol now has 618 confirmed cases of coronavirus after a rise of eight in one day.

The figures come as the UK's Covid-19 death toll reached 28,131 - the third highest in the world.

Across Bristol hospitals, 155 deaths have been recorded, with 81 at Southmead Hospital and 74 at the University Hospitals Bristol, which runs Bristol Royal Infirmary.

As of 5.24pm today (May 2), Public Health England's figures show South Gloucestershire now has 349 positive tests following a rise of five.

A further 12 people have contracted the deadly virus in North Somerset, bringing the district's total to 246.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said the UK is past the Covid-19 peak - but England's Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty warned the country was "nowhere near the end of the pandemic".
