Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Mertens twist, £42.6m Jorginho replacement, Boga return clause

Chelsea may have handed themselves a massive boost in the race for the Premier League top four but a loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League this week has showed how far off the best they really are.

The Blues beat Tottenham 2-1 at the weekend to strengthen their hold on fourth place but a 3-0 home defeat against Bayern highlighted some of the areas where Frank Lampard's side are weak.

Lampard will be looking to improve his squad in the summer to fix some of those issues and here are some of the latest rumours on the Blues.

Mertens update

Dries Mertens continues to be linked with a summer move to Chelsea and now there is another update.

But this time it appears that his club Napoli are attempting to keep hold of the impressive forward.

Mertens showcased his skills this week by scoring for Napoli in their 1-1 draw at home to Barcelona in their last 16 first-leg tie in Italy.

Napoli want the 32-year-old to sign a new contract as his current deal is set to run out this summer.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal have been linked with Mertens, who is yet to come to terms on a new contract.

CalcioMercato, per the MailOnline, say that Mertens' representatives have told the club three reasons why he has not signed yet.

Mertens wants a three-year deal and issues have arisen in regards to the fixed salary and the signing-on fee, per the report.

€50m bid prepared for potential Jorginho replacement

Chelsea are preparing a €50million (£42.6m) bid for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, according to reports.

Tuttomercatoweb, per Sport Witness, say that the Blues have Aouar 'in their sights' and that Frank Lampard's men are raising the pressure on Juventus, who are also said to be keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.

This all comes on the back of rumours about Jorginho's future, with the playmaker's agent having reportedly admitted that the player would be willing to reunite with Maurizio Sarri, who is now the boss of Juventus.

Boga return clause

Jeremie Boga could return to Chelsea this summer, per reports.

Boga has flourished since leaving Stamford Bridge for Sassuolo on a permanent deal back in 2018.

The 23-year-old midfielder has scored seven goals and has four assists this season.

Tuttomercatoweb, per Sport Witness, now state that Chelsea are willing to activate Boga's buy-back clause of €15million.
