Latest Chelsea transfer rumours: Marash Kumbulla targeted, deal close, Inter eye Marcos Alonso

Chelsea get their Premier League season underway this evening when they head to the AMEX Stadium.

Brighton & Hove Albion are tonight’s opposition for Frank Lampard’s side as he looks set to start his second campaign as the Blues ’ manager.

Already, it has been a busy summer for the Blues in the transfer market, whose spending has already reached around £200m.

But is there more business to be done at Stamford Bridge in terms of incomings and outgoings before next month’s deadline?

Here are latest Chelsea transfer rumours.

Chelsea reach Edouard Mendy transfer agreement

Inter Milan target Marcos Alonso

Italian giants Inter Milan are reportedly making Blues left-back Marcos Alonso their number one transfer target.

The Nerazzurri are already close to completing a deal for Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal and Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera have reported that current Inter boss Antonio Conte wants Alonso be the next arrival after Vidal.

Conte signed Alonso at Stamford Bridge back in 2016, with the duo winning the Premier League title together at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

Chelsea saw the best out of Alonso during Conte’s two seasons in charge, with Alonso flourishing as a left wing-back, a role he would take up again under Conte if he moved to the San Siro.

Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United eye Kumbulla

Lampard’s side are reportedly one of five clubs interested in signing Hellas Verona defender Marash Kumbulla.

According to Verona-based newspaper L’Arena, Tottenham Hotspur have become the latest club to express their interest in the 20-year-old, with Serie A duo Inter and Lazio also said to be keen.

The Blues have already strengthened their defence this summer with the signings of Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr, although it is understood that the latter will leave London on loan before the transfer window closes.

Kumbulla impressed during his debut season last term in Italy’s top-flight, making 25 appearances in a term that was partially disrupted by injury.

Mendy close to finalising move

Chelsea are set to be closing in on the signing of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Rennes.

Multiple outlets including football.London are reporting that a deal has been agreed and that Mendy’s move will be officially confirmed in the coming days.

The form of Kepa Arrizabalaga last season led to him losing his place to Willy Caballero for the final games of the campaign, with Lampard aiming to sign Mendy as direct competition for Kepa in a move worth just shy of £30m.
