GLENDALE, Ariz. _ The Detroit Red Wings scored with the man advantage and while shorthanded to come away with a victory in the desert.
Luke Glendening gave the Wings their first lead of the game with 3:24 to go in regulation when he scored during the Coyotes' sixth power play. Martin Frk scored a power play and Henrik Zetterberg also contributed a goal as the Wings beat the Arizona Coyotes, 4-2, at Gila River Arena Thursday.
The Wings were unable to grab a lead during a power play in the third period, one that saw Zetterberg's unit eat the whole two minutes. The Wings went on a sixth penalty kill with about five minutes to play. Jimmy Howard denied Clayton Keller a hat trick with a terrific save on a wrist shot, and then Dylan Larkin and Glendening took off down the ice. Larkin picked up his second assist of the night when he fed Glendening.
Frans Nielsen scored into an empty net to secure the victory. Howard finished with 33 saves.
The Wings came out attacking in the second period, with Tomas Tatar spinning around down low and forcing a save from Louis Domingue (who took over after the first period because Antti Raanta left with a lower-body injury). A third delay of game penalty for sending the puck over the glass left the shorthanded for the fifth time overall, and this time, the Coyotes broke through. Howard made the initial save but the puck came loose in the paint and Nick Jensen was unable to reach the puck before Clayton Keller, who turned it into a 1-0 lead.
