Late double sees Livingston make it 12 games unbeaten with win over Kilmarnock

A late double ensured Livingston made it 12 games unbeaten as goals in the final two minutes from Jaze Kabia and Scott Pittman helped guide them to a 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock.

The contest had been a drab one seemingly certain to end in a goalless draw before the late drama.

Kabia, in just his second appearance for the club since signing from Shelbourne, found the roof of the net with a deflected effort on 88 minutes after Craig Sibbald's cross broke to the Irishman.

Barely a minute later the points were firmly in the bag as a poor clearance allowed Scott Pittman - making his 250th appearance for the club - to slot home.

The victory strengthens the Lions' bid for a top four spot with them now sitting five points behind Hibs but with a game in hand.

Livingston made four changes to the side that started Sunday's Betfred Cup semi-final. Match winner Scott Robinson was replaced in the lone striker's role by Gavin Reilly who was making his first start for the club. Jack Fitzwater, Ciaron Brown and Alan Forrest were recalled at the expense of Efe Ambrose, Julien Serrano and Craig Sibbald.

Forrest had the game's first chance on nine minutes when he pounced on an Aaron McGowan miscue but his angled drive was parried wide by Danny Rogers with the corner coming to nothing for the hosts.

The hosts would go even closer six minutes later when Josh Mullin's deep cross was headed against the bar by Jon Guthrie, with Killie able to scramble the rebound clear.

The two sides would cancel each other out which led to little in the way of free-flowing football although the away side's backline often looked shaky when put under pressure.

It was from a defensive error that the Lions would pass up a great opportunity to get themselves in front 10 minutes before the interval.

Reilly pinched the ball of Stuart Findlay inside the penalty area but was unable to get a shot off. He teed up Pittman who in turn found Forrest but his effort was blocked.

Having offered little in an attacking sense in the first half, Alex Dyer's side started the brighter of the two sides after the break.

Veteran winger Chris Burke has netted in both previous fixtures between the two sides this term and fashioned Killie's best chance on 49 minutes. He got in behind Brown but was forced wide and his strike from a tight angle was smartly saved by Max Stryjek.

Debutant George Oakley then saw his effort cleared off the line by Nicky Devlin after he'd got the better of Guthrie down the right. The clearance from Livi's right-back thundered back into the striker with the ball flying over the bar.

Robinson was introduced on the hour mark for the hosts and he saw his cross palmed towards Forrest by Killie keeper Rogers. The former Ayr United man couldn't produce his trademark cut in from the left and curl one into the bottom corner on this occasion, though, with his effort falling comfortably wide of the left-hand post.

Livi had the better of the closing stages and their pressure finally paid off when Kabia and then Pittman struck late on to seal the victory.
