Lata Mangeshkar has left for her heavenly abode, leaving a void in the Indian music industry that can never be filled. While messages of condolences pour in from all sides, ETimes got in touch with new age singers Shilpa Rao and Jonita Gandhi.
“It’s a huge loss to us all. I thank Lata ji for showing us the path of learning and worshiping music. Our youth must learn from her how to uphold music in its true form. My prayers for her soul and her family on this sad day,” Shilpa said.
Jonita Gandhi also mourned the loss of the legendary singer. She added, “Legends Live On. The music industry has lost a 'Godmother' today. I started my journey with you as my first guru without you even knowing, as I am sure many others have too. Through your voice we will always remember your contribution to this world. Rest in eternal peace Lata ji.”
Lata Mangeshkar left for her heavenly abode at 8.12 am on Sunday. Her mortal remains will be taken to Shivaji Park for people to pay homage. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be arriving in Mumbai in the evening to pay his homage to the Nightingale of India.
The legendary singer was admitted to the hospital after being tested positive for the novel Coronavirus earlier in January. Confirming her demise, Dr Pratit Samdani, who was treating her at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, told ANI, "It is with profound grief that we announce the sad demise of #LataMangeshkar at 8:12am. She has died because of multi-organ failure after more than 28 days of hospitalisation post COVID19."
