Larry David defends Woody Allen, calling his controversial memoir 'a fantastic book'

Seinfeld creator and Curb Your Enthusiasm star Larry David has spoken out in defence of Woody Allen after reading his controversial memoir.

“It’s just a great book,” said David, who revealed he had been reading it in an interview with The New York Times. “It’s hard to walk away after reading that book thinking that this guy did anything wrong.”

“It’s pretty great, it’s a fantastic book, so funny,” said the comedian. “You feel like you’re in the room with him.”

The autobiography, entitled Apropos of Nothing, was published on 23 March by Arcade Publishing, after original publishers Hachette cancelled its release following mass walkouts by staff.

Allen’s daughter Dylan Farrow has long accused the Annie Hall filmmaker of sexually abusing her when she was a child – allegations Allen has consistently denied.

Apropos of Nothing also stirred up controversy after its release, with particular attention being paid to the parts of the book where Allen describes a 19-year old Scarlett Johansson as “sexually radioactive”.
