Larne fire: Crews attend incident at builder's merchants

Fire crews were called to battle a blaze at a builder's merchants in Larne on Tuesday night.

It's believed the incident centred on a branch of the MacBlair builder's suppliers yard in the Co Antrim town.

Around 46 firefighters and six officers were deployed at around 8pm.

A tweet from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service at around 10.45pm said: "NIFRS have been called to a fire in a timber store at MacBlair, Builders Merchants, Larne, at 19.58hrs tonight. Six fire appliances, an aerial appliance and a command support unit from Kilrea, The incident is ongoing at present."

Appliances from nearby Ballyclare, Whitehead, Carrickfergus and a specialist turntable appliance from Belfast were called to the scene. No cause of ignition has yet been established.

NIFRS North said: "Fire crews from Larne, Whitehead, Carrickfergus, Ballyclare and a turntable ladder from Belfast Command are tackling a major fire in the Station Road area of Larne.

"Crews are fighting the fire with firefighting jets, breathing apparatus and a turntable ladder."

Station Road and Circular Road in the town were closed but have now reopened.
