Largest St George's flag in England has gone up on Nottingham's Council House

The largest St George's flag in England has been draped across Nottingham's Council House in time for next week's parade.

The flag was hung across the iconic building in the city centre on Thursday, April 18.

On Tuesday, April 23, a free family event will be run in the city to mark the country's very own patron saint.

Starting at the junction of Pelham Street and Thurland Street at noon, the white and red parade will finish in Old Market Square outside the Council House at 1pm.

The Royal Society of St George Radford Branch finance the parade through donations and fundraising events.

In 1415 St George's Day became a national feast day and holiday in England.

But after the union with Scotland in the 18th century it ceased to become a national holiday.
