Lane Johnson credits film sessions on ex-Browns LT Joe Thomas for his improvement

Lane Johnson is a Pro Bowler and one of the best right tackles in the NFL, and yet he’s still improving as a blocker on a weekly basis. Recently, while chatting with the NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger, Johnson credited film sessions watching former Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas for his success in combating power rushers.

“One thing I remember watching from the Joe Thomas film,” Johnson explained via PFT, “was whenever he talked about power and one thing that he did whenever he talked about the bull rush was they’re trying to generate their power through you and whenever you get your ankles, knees and hands in alignment and it kind of forces that power up.”

For Johnson, who’s taken the next step as a pass protector, those sessions were crucial in furthering his development.

Johnson now utilizes the technique for himself and teaches it during his offensive line summit.
