Two people were confirmed killed and another was missing after a landslide hit a village in Mae Chaem district of Chiang Mai as heavy rain pounded the North of Thailand on Wednesday morning.
Chiang Mai's deputy governor said persistent rain caused the landslide in Ban Pang Ung about 3am on Wednesday. At least 10 houses were hit by the mud, and seven of them completely destroyed.
Two residents were found dead and a 12-year-old girl was missing. Many other people were injured but could not be taken to hospital right away because the landslide blocked local roads.
Flooding was reported hit Chiang Dao, Hang Dong and Mae On districts.
Chiang Mai was among many provinces affected by the low pressure system which had earlier been storm Kajiki and which was moving across the North of Thailand on Wednesday morning.
In Vietnam, Typhoon Kajiki left at least seven people dead after bringing heavy rains that damaged thousands of homes and left much of Hanoi submerged.
