The property owners and landlords of a Fair Lawn, New Jersey home where the brother of Janoris Jenkins is accused of having killed music producer Roosevelt Rene are now suing the New York Giants cornerback, reports NorthJersey.com.
S.R. and N.R. Tummalapenta, who filed court documents on Thursday, claim the value of the home has decreased 30 percent since the killing and are seeking $700,000 from Jenkins in exchange for the damaged value, reputation and property.
The Tummalapentas further claim that Jenkins broke their lease agreement by allowing his brother and others to live in the home.
“Setting aside the utterly tragic incident that occurred in June of last year,” attorney Jonathan Swichar, who represents the Tummalapentas, said, “Mr. Jenkins and the additional, non-occupant tenants and visitors have caused considerable reputational and physical damage to the property, in addition to emotional pain for the Tummalapentas – who one day hoped to pass this home to their children.”
William Jenkins was arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter shortly after the body of Rene was found in the basement studio of the home. Police said the two had engaged in a physical altercation before William strangled/suffocated Rene to death.
In early March, William was indicted on charges of manslaughter, hindering apprehension, desecrating human remains and endangering a victim.
The two-year, $5,500 per month lease expired May 31, 2018. At the time of Rene’s killing, Jenkins had been attempting to extend said lease.
