It is hard to believe that just a year ago this lush, green land had been reduced to a smoking desert in Australia’s deadly bushfires.
Last January, we published the dramatic scenes of Dane Hatfield desperately battling to save his blazing truck and a lock-up containing his sister-in-law’s worldly possessions
The inferno ravaged 46 million acres of land and locals feared it could take the environment 100 years to recover.
But last night, Dane told how his region of the Snowy Mountains, near Canberra, has returned to its former self.
The 32-year-old said: “The area has enjoyed large amount of rainfall.

“It is green again. Trees are regrowing. You wouldn’t recognise it from when you were here last January.”
The fires killed 34 people and an estimated three billion animals.
Luckily, the home Dane shares with wife Cassandra, 31, and sons Oliver, five, and Roy, one, escaped unscathed.
And he managed to get a new truck on the insurance.
