Land deal done for five-acre city site with consented plans for 631 apartments

A key land deal has completed for a five-acre site on the edge of Leeds city centre, where outline approval for 631 apartments has been received.

Manchester property developer Glenbrook has bought the Kirkstall Road plot, on the River Aire, from Marshall CDP for an undisclosed sum.

The proposed scheme also features 10,000 sq ft of commercial space, with detailed plans to be submitted to the local authority in the coming months.

Glenbrook’s design team is now working to deliver what will be purpose-built rental accommodation.

Occupying a prominent position at 87-89 Kirkstall Road on the bank of River Aire, the scheme has existing outline planning consent in place for 631 apartments and 10,000 sq ft of commercial accommodation.

Daniel Roberts, senior development manager at Glenbrook, said: “Leeds is a forward-thinking and dynamic city; this site is strategically very important and its redevelopment will help create an attractive walkway along the River Aire giving access to and from the city centre.

"Our plans will bring an exciting new build-to-rent concept to the market with features including pocket parks and a host of amenities to complement the substantial public realm areas.”

CBRE advised Marshalls with Carrick Real Estate representing Glenbrook.

The company has already completed more than 1,500 apartments and has a further 2,500 apartments in various stages of planning and procurement. Funding partners include Barings Real Estate, Moorfield and Clarion.

Last year it bought the mixed-use Albion Court buildings in Leeds for £6.7 million.
