Lanarkshire woman completes daring wing walk to raise funds for her kid's school

The dream of a daredevil Wishaw woman came true when she took part in a wing walk last week.

Brave Amanda Smith organised the stunt as part of her 40th birthday celebrations but also wanted to raise some funds for Thornlie Primary School's parent council.

During last Friday's wing walk, Amanda reached heights of 800 feet and experienced tilts of 180-degrees, while strapped to the plane.

Speaking to Lanarkshire Live, Amanda said: "This is something I had always wanted to do and I booked it with the money I received for my recent 40th birthday.

"As we have not been able to fundraise at the school for two years due to Covid and we were running low on funds, I decided to try and raise money by getting sponsored on my wing walk.

"My son Klayton is in P6 and my daughter Aarla will be going into P1 in August. They loved watching me do this, showing that they should always be fearless with caution.

"It was an amazing experience, I hope to achieve the target I have set and give all the children at Thornlie Primary a fun day to remember."

The funds Amanda is raising will go towards an end-of-year party, as the school has not been able to have one since 2019.

This will be a free day for all pupils where they will enjoy inflatables, a barbecue and other fun activities.

"We have ordered an assault course, total wipeout, speed cage and bouncy castles we will also have barbecue and water fights", added Amanda.

Donate to Amanda's fundraising efforts can be made here.
