Lanarkshire Great British Bake Off contestant still pudding on a show after getting through 'dessert week'

It was another successful week in the Great British Bake Off tent for Lanarkshire teacher Kevin Flynn.

The Hamilton baker has made it through to the sixth week of the hit show on Channel 4 after a great performance on 'dessert week'.

After becoming the last Scot remaining in the competition, he now finds himself among the final seven contestants.

Kevin, originally from Motherwell, was tasked with some tricky cakes to put together to impress the judges, including steamed puddings in this week's signature challenge.

His 'clootie dumplings' stood out in the first round entries in terms of approach as he opted for a more dense fruit cake which was soaked in whisky.

But some harsh critics from judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith of his end product being "too dense" and the "wrong recipe" put the 33-year-old in a tough spot.

Kevin's Dessert Week showstopper (Channel 4)

After agreeing with the feedback he admitted he "saw it coming" but looked ahead to the week's technical challenge.

The instructions for this left the bakers scratching their heads with a recipe simply stating "make a lemon meringue pie".

However, as other struggled, Kevin found himself placed fifth out of the eight contestants, but he knew a top-notch bake was still required in the showstopper challenge to secure another week in the iconic tent.

It was here he was tasked with creating a visually spectacular mousse-based dessert with a surprise inside, with three further dessert elements included in the cake.

Kevin themed his on his dog digging up in the garden with a cleverly crafted pooch sitting on top of his numerous layers.

He called it ' What the Dog Dug ', made from chocolate mousse, banana mousse and crème mousseline.

The masterpiece impressed the judges who enjoyed a chuckle at the doggy theme. And Prue very much enjoyed the chocolate mousse calling it "heaven".

Paul said it tasted amazing, but offered some small pieces of constructive criticism.

In the end, it was fellow contestant Carole that was voted out, with Kevin remaining in the competition. But he is yet to earn himself an award of Star Baker as he looks ahead to week six.

Talented Kevin has been baking since he was 17, but he also teaches and performs music, mainly on saxophone, as well as flute, piano and clarinet.

Going into this year's GBBO, he said he's looking to utilise his "good command of flavours and technique" and think on his feet if something goes wrong.

He now hopes to make many people in his community proud during his time on the show.

Kevin told Lanarkshire Live : "It feels great to be representing my local community on GBBO. Lots of my friends and family are already fans of the show, and I hope I've brought the joy of the show a bit closer to home.

"So many people have gotten in touch with me to wish me the best and to have a laugh at my facial expressions and mishaps! I feel really well-supported.

Kevin looks forward to his sixth week in this year's Bake Off tent which will be screened on Tuesday, October 18.

Next week the bakers will take on Halloween Week as they're expected to make a host of spooky bakes.
