Lanarkshire dance school celebrates 20th anniversary with sell-out show

A Lanarkshire dance school is celebrating 20 years of having all the right moves.

LMG School of Dance was founded by Lisa Margaret Gaffney and began life in various halls around East Kilbride.

In 2003 it found a permanent base in Dundas Place in the Village until it moved to a new studio on Stroud Road in Greenhills in recent years.

The school celebrated with a sold-out show at Motherwell Civic Theatre recently.

Lisa teaches all styles of dance including hip hop, lyrical, ballet, tap, modern, jazz and cheer and works with people with special needs.

Through out the years she has expanded her list of credits to include qualifications in Zumba, boogie bounce and salsa and has an innovative and dynamic dance style.

Alana McLeod, from LMG, told Lanarkshire Live: "For many LMG has been a second home, growing up with the classes they began with as babies and welcoming new dancers along the way.

"The ethos of LMG is always about family friendships and having fun through dance. This has seen the studio hosting movie nights, sleep overs and Halloween and Christmas parties.

"Lisa ensures the dance school is active in the local community and has performed in the Village Fest in East Kilbride and Funk Feet event in the town centre and at charity events raising money for cancer and other causes.

"Even through the pandemic Lisa posted dances on line as well as conducting some classes through teams to keep her community together and help the children through these hard times.

"The members of LMG would like to send a very heartfelt thank you to Lisa for the time and dedication she gives them week after week as well as being a role model and mentor and above all else a true friend."

Lisa has had many assistants over the years but some of the longest running assistants who are still a huge part of the school are Kayleigh Murray, Amy Burton and cousin to Lisa, Olivia Forster.

Alana added: "LMG has extremely dedicated backroom staff in Lisa's mum Diane Gaffney, brother James and aunts, Jacqueline Forster and Deborah Allison. The school could not have been as successful as it has been without the support of these key members."
