Lanarkshire bus service targeted by yobs to resume through village centre

A bus service through the centre of a Lanarkshire village will resume today after louts launched a missile at a window - with 43 people on board.

Police began an investigation after the shocking incident in broad daylight in Stonehouse on January 6 just after noon, with an outer window of the bus shattered as a result of the attack.

Thankfully, no one was injured but there were fears the damage to the bus and safety concerns could jeopardise the future of the lifeline service, launched in October after a successful pilot scheme.

Climate Action Strathaven (CAS), who operate the 3C bus, halted the service through the centre of Stonehouse - but have announced it will resume as of 3.15pm today.

CAS told Lanarkshire Live: "The 3C Bus will recommence its route through Stonehouse town centre from today's 15.15 service onwards.

"Thank you for your support and patience in this matter. We're glad to be back to our normal!"

The service was launched after a successful pilot scheme (EKN)

They posted after the incident: "At 12.10 on New Street in Stonehouse we believe up to three youths threw an object at our 3C bus, while it travelled through Stonehouse.

"This caused a bus outer window to shatter while 43 passengers were onboard. The inner window glass remained intact."

A delighted passenger wrote on the resumption of the service on its previous route: "Great news.

"Looks like a trip next week! It’s a great service. Thanks you to all involved."
