Lana Del Rey’s bold summer flower display is one of the most striking we’ve seen – it involves upkeep, but a master gardener says it's worth it

Lana Del Rey.

A showstopping flower arrangement sometimes comes down to pairing two unexpected flowers together for a delightfully dynamic combination. Our latest fixation in this realm? Hydrangeas and orchids, courtesy of Lana Del Rey.

The singer-songwriter recently shared a snap of her stunning bouquet, featuring pink and purple hydrangeas, and purple, white, and yellow orchids. Needless to say, it's giving us some flower arrangement ideas.

The mix of colors, petal shapes, and textures makes for an engaging and truly stunning bouquet, and also proves that less is more when it comes to how many flowers you should include in an arrangement.

Shop the look

According to experts, if you want to achieve Lana's floral look, it will require some upkeep to ensure the blooms are looking fresh and healthy.

'Hydrangeas and orchids together make for a lush, romantic floral arrangement, but they both need a bit of care to last,' explains Gardens content editor at Homes & Gardens, Thom Rutter. 'You don't often see them paired together, but as you can see from the image here, you would be hard pressed to beat these pastel flowerheads together.'

With an arrangement as robust as Lana's, opting for a vase with plenty of room (or even a planter) is your best move. Additionally, Thom advises that you pay extra attention to changing the water, as this is crucial for longevity.

'In terms of care, hydrangeas are famously thirsty, so it helps to snip the stems every few days and refresh the water in the vase every two days, too,' he explains. 'Another insider tip, is submerging the hydrangea flowerheads in water, as the petals (as well as the roots) can actually drink water. Impressive, right?'

Try experimenting with different color variations; we love the feminine, pink and purple approach Lana has taken, but going for an all-white or yellow-forward bouquet can be a lovely way to brighten up any space.
