LaMelo Ball goes No. 1 to Timberwolves in Rookie Wire 2020 NBA mock draft

With just under one month until the 2020 NBA Draft, multiple things are starting to become clear in regards to where prospects will go. LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards are the two vying for the No. 1 spot held by the Timberwolves. However, Ball almost certainly won’t go No. 2 to the Warriors if he isn’t taken No. 1 with Golden State likely either to trade down or pass on him. From there, things open up in the draft with the Hornets possibly drafting Ball or fielding trade offers themselves.

With that in mind, many mock drafts are projecting Ball to be the top pick in the draft, including the latest from Bryan Kalbrosky at Rookie Wire.

“As for the team fit, Portland and Toronto have proven that it’s possible to successfully use two lead guards on the court at the same time.

Minnesota can have its own jumbo-sized guard combo with D’Angelo Russell (6-foot-5) playing more off-ball and LaMelo Ball (6-foot-8) taking over as the primary backcourt playmaker for a dynamic offensive team alongside superstar big Karl-Anthony Towns in the frontcourt.”

Plenty has been discussed about how Ball fits with D’Angelo Russell and the Wolves, including from Russell himself. But, ultimately, Ball may be too talented a prospect to pass on and, as noted, teams have had success with two leads guards in the past.
