Lamar Jackson nominated for FedEx Ground Player of Week 6

The Baltimore Ravens were carried on the back and legs of quarterback Lamar Jackson in Week 6. Against the Cincinnati Bengals, Jackson proved he was still capable of tearing up defenses on the ground after weeks of showing he could do it through the air. Jackson rushed 19 times for 152 yards and a touchdown against Cincinnati and earned a nomination for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week award.

Jackson could make history if he wins the award this week, becoming the only player to ever win both the ground and air awards in a single season. As of right now, Jackson leads in the Twitter poll by a fairly wide margin, but that shouldn’t stop you from voting as well.

Over six games this season, Jackson has rushed 69 times for 460 yards and two touchdowns. It puts Jackson on pace for 1,227 yards on the ground this season. That would be the most single-season rushing yards for a quarterback in NFL history, beating Michael Vick’s 1,039 yards in 2006.

But Jackson hasn’t just been a force on the ground. He’s completed 65.1% of his 195 passing attempts for 1,507 yards, 11 touchdowns and just five interceptions. While Jackson has come back down to earth over the last three weeks as a passer, he’s still light-years ahead of where he was as a rookie and is quickly establishing himself as one of the best young quarterbacks in the league.
