Lakers moving on to other candidates after talks with Lue break down

Ty Lue’s career as the Los Angeles Lakers head coach ended before it even started.

The Lakers and Lue are both moving on from each other after disagreements over the coaching staff, according to The Los Angeles Times and The Athletic.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report that the Lakers and Lue were at an impasse, but after five days where it looked like the partnership was imminent, the Lakers are prepared to go in another direction.

The only other names left in the coaching search for the Lakers are former Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd or Miami Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard.

Earlier this week, Yahoo’s Chris Haynes reported that Frank Vogel was a candidate to join Lue’s staff but apparently one veteran head coach on his staff wasn’t enough. It also appears that the Lakers were lowballing Lue a little bit, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

No matter who they hire next, it’s hard not to see this ordeal as another complete disaster for the Lakers franchise, owner Jeanie Buss and general manager Rob Pelinka.
