Lakers are among the favorites to sign Spencer Dinwiddie

The NBA trade deadline has passed, and the Los Angeles Lakers elected to stand pat.

That means the only way they can add someone to their roster the rest of the way is through free agency, which means looking to the buyout market. Players from the buyout market are usually very underwhelming, but there are cases where a player from that source will make at least somewhat of an impact.

Veteran guard Spencer Dinwiddie was just traded by the Brooklyn Nets to the Toronto Raptors, who then waived him. He is reportedly a candidate to join the Lakers.

Dinwiddie is a proven ballhandler and facilitator who has career averages of 13.6 points and 5.3 assists a game. He doesn’t turn the ball over much, and he is a native of the Southland.

However, the big negative with him is his shooting. He has a career mark of just 33.1% from 3-point range, and this season, he’s at 32% from that distance. Outside shooting is arguably the Lakers’ biggest weakness, and he wouldn’t exactly help in that area.
