LaDainian Tomlinson says Bears should trade up for Marquise Brown

As the hours continue to count down to the start of the 2019 NFL draft, the drama and intrigue surrounding the first round are reaching their highest point yet.

The Chicago Bears are one of five teams that don’t have a first-round pick this year, but according to NFL Network’s LaDainian Tomlinson, it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be aggressive Thursday night.

Tomlinson, during the airing of Draft Kickoff LIVE, said the Bears are the one that should trade back into the top 32. The reason? To draft Oklahoma WR Marquise Brown.

Tomlinson suggested a player with Brown’s dynamic playmaking ability is the final piece missing in Matt Nagy’s offense, and while the former Chargers’ great is absolutely right, he’s also absolutely delusional if he thinks Chicago has the kind of ammunition needed to make a massive trade like that.

Remember: The Bears don’t have a second-round pick either. They traded it to the Patriots last year to move up for Anthony Miller. And they don’t have a first-round pick in 2020; it was part of the package that landed Khalil Mack last September.

So, while trading up for a prospect as exciting as Brown is a fun hypothetical to throw around, reality tells a very, very different tale.

The Bears are going to let the draft fall to them at No. 87 overall. Whether they select a running back or a discounted version of a speedster at wide receiver is anyone’s guess, but don’t expect Chicago to mortgage more of its future to trade up in 2019.
