LaDainian Tomlinson picks Mike Evans over DeSean Jackson for best deep-threat in NFL

DeSean Jackson is one of the best in NFL history at tracking the deep ball and has been among the league leaders in yards per reception for years, but one Pro Football Hall of Famer and a former all-time great running back doesn’t believe he’s the best in the NFL as a deep threat.

Tomlinson, an analyst on NFL Network, pegged Jackson’s former teammate in Tampa Bay, Mike Evans, as the best deep-threat wide receiver in the NFL.

“The guy averages over 17 yards per reception,” Tomlinson said. “It’s because of that 6-foot-5, 6-foot-6 frame, but a guy that can also run 4.4 (40-yard dash) and he constantly puts pressure on the cornerback by his size and his speed. He does this in his sleep, man, catches the ball down the field.”

That would all be great, except Jackson has been the best deep ball receiver since he entered the league in 2008, has led the league in yards per catch four times and currently has a career average of over 17.4 yards per reception.

Last season was Evans best as a pro, as he amassed 86 receptions for 1,524 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 17.7 yards per catch.  Jackson has 589 catches for 10,261 yards and 53 touchdowns in his 11 NFL seasons, to go along with his career average of 17.4 per catch and he’s done it over a more consistent basis of time.
