LA woman has great first date before she leaves for family trip. Then she extends her trip and the right guy becomes the red flag

The modern dating pool is emotionally exhausting, whether you meet someone on a dating app or offline. For LA-based creator Emily Banks (@dxrtylaundry), a promising new organic connection apparently turned into a nightmare when she left on a simple family trip.

In a recent TikTok video, Banks shared a brief dating experience that served as a major reality check for her about emotionally high-maintenance guys. Her story – whether true or not – is a perfect reminder that early interactions are highly telling. And if you want to dodge a red flag early like her, go with your instincts the moment someone makes you feel uncomfortable.

A planned family trip exposed unexpected red flags in Banks’ “perfect” man

Banks started her video by establishing a clear personal boundary. She shared with her viewers that dating an “emotionally high maintenance” man is one of her biggest turn-offs. Then she opened about a nightmare date that she just called off.

Initially, she says, things were looking very positive. Banks organically met a guy in person, they shared genuine chemistry, and enjoyed a great first date. Shortly after their successful meetup, she left town for a previously scheduled visit with her relatives.

Extending her family trip triggered a surprising sense of entitlement

While she was away, Banks reveals she decided to extend her stay. Since they didn’t have a concrete second date on the calendar, she politely texted the guy to let him know she would be out of town a little longer than expected.

His alleged response, however, completely shifted the mood. He replied, “That’s unfortunate news. It really shows me where your priorities are, bro.” But instead of apologizing or trying to smooth things over, Banks stood her ground. She responded, confirming that her priorities were, in fact, spending quality time with her loved ones.

Banks chose peace and her family over an emotionally demanding partner

Banks stresses how she immediately recognized that man’s strange message was a red flag. For a man she had only hung out with one time, he was already displaying an unwarranted sense of entitlement over her schedule. “This man feels some sort of entitlement when I’ve hung out with him one time,” she remarked.

Taking a moment to reflect, Banks noted how much she has grown from her past dating habits. She admitted that a younger version of herself might have mistaken his reaction as something “cute,” assuming it just meant he really wanted to see her.

Now, fully aware of her worth and boundaries, she identified his text as a glaring red flag and ended things right away. So, sometimes, the healthiest thing you can do is walk away from situations that drain your energy before they even begin.
