Kyogo fit for Rangers showdown, but Ange Postecoglou urges Celtic to focus on league

Ange Postecoglou has declared striker Kyogo fit and raring to go ahead of next week’s Viaplay Cup Final against Rangers, but the Celtic manager says that his squad’s entire focus is trained on today’s Premiership encounter against Aberdeen.

Kyogo had an injury scare last week during the Scottish Cup win over St Mirren, being forced off with a shoulder injury, but Postecoglou says his forward is back in training and could even be in the side for this afternoon’s game at Celtic Park.

“He’s fine,” Postecoglou said.

“I think I was pretty relaxed after the game. Last year he had a similar thing and I think he missed one training session.

“We knew it wasn’t anything serious. He did some rehab earlier in the week, but he’s trained the last two days and is ready to go.”

When asked if his players might already have one eye on the clash with their city rivals at Hampden next week, he added: “I don’t think so. The players here understand that being part of this football club means that every game has consequence.

“The last thing we want to do is not play to our ability [against Aberdeen] and not have a good game and not get the right result as that’s not a great lead up to any game, let alone a cup final.

“The players at the moment seem really focused. They want to play. They are all putting their hands up. Whoever will start [on Saturday] will want to do well and will want to make sure they stay in the team. I know the ones coming on will want to make an impact like they have been.

“I don’t have to address that as an issue. I’m seeing them in training and the way they are preparing for games, and their focus is just on one thing, and that’s the next game.”
