After rumours flew that she'd signed up, Kym Marsh has officially been confirmed for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing, revealing that she'd 'considered' the show for years.

After the BBC confirmed the launch date for the new series of the smash hit show earlier this week, the announcements on who is taking part this time round are now set to come thick and fast over the coming week.

The first star to be announced on th e Strictly line-up this time round was Will Mellor, with the No Offence and Two Pints of Lager actor's involvement delighting fans. Both Will and Kym were revealed as Strictly contestants on Thursday's BBC Breakfast, with former Hear'Say singer turned Coronation Street actress and Morning Live host Kym joined by her parents for the interview. Kym apologised for the 'boring backdrop' as she appeared via video call from a hotel balcony overseas, with Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty telling her to "enjoy the break," before all the dance training starts.

Speaking about being on Strictly, Kym said: "I’ve considered doing Strictly for years but the timings never worked out. I’m so delighted that this year they have! I’m a huge fan of the show and can’t believe I’m going to go from watching at home in my pyjamas to actually dancing in front of the judges in a glittery dress, it’s unreal!”

Will was equally thrilled to sign up, saying: "I’m honestly so chuffed to be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this year! Not going to lie, it’s totally out of my comfort zone and I know it will be a huge challenge but that’s what life is all about,’ he said.

‘This is also my Mum’s favourite show and she’s had a really tough few years so I’m doing this is for her as well. Bring it on!"
