Kylie Jenner’s Music Video Is Getting Slammed On Reddit: ‘How Deeply Out Of Touch’

Kylie Jenner cosmetics ad controversy

Kylie Jenner is facing some online backlash after sharing her latest Kylie Cosmetics campaign — a highly publicised music video in partnership with Snapchat in which she gets arrested.

Posted to her socials over the weekend, the teaser shows the beauty mogul being led away in handcuffs while dressed in a black leather bra, matching micro-shorts, silver hip chains, sheer black tights, and pointed-toe pumps.

While the promo leans into cinematic glamour, many online are questioning the tone of the campaign, suggesting Jenner may have missed the mark in reading the current cultural moment.

Handcuffed and flanked by two officers, 28-year-old Jenner sauntered down what looked like a jail corridor in dramatic slow motion.

“King Kylie. Tomorrow,” flashed across the screen as a woman was heard whispering the words.

Like clockwork, the ad has copped backlash from punters, some of whom compared it to Kendall Jenner‘s ill-fated Pepsi ad which drew criticism as it appeared to trivialise serious social justice movements — particularly the Black Lives Matter protests — by suggesting that sharing a can of Pepsi could solve systemic issues like racism and police brutality.

“The country’s boiling over, citizens being dragged off by rogue badge hungry rent-a-cops, and Kylie Jenner drops a handcuffed hot-pants photoshoot to promote COSMETICS. This isn’t satire; it’s American rot,” wrote one Reddit user, referencing the ongoing ICE raids across the United States.

“LOL as if she could ever comprehend what the people she cosplays as are going through. This is insanely disgusting, and I didn’t even think about how deeply out of touch this was til I read your title for this post. You’re so right,” another commenter wrote, with a third commenter saying the ad is “actually gross”.

“What the actual fuck is this stupid shit,” wrote another. “This is so inappropriate for the culture rn like read the fucking room Kylie/Kartrashian Klan.”

“They care about nothing but themselves,” another Redditor opined. “It’s actually pathetic and beyond tone deaf at this point. It really solidifies what they truly are about. Vapid nothings.”

Another person questioned whether Kylie was “trying to stir up the same kind of backlash her sister Kendall faced with that tone-deaf Pepsi ad??”

There were also peeps who took issue with the “No Kings” protests against what demonstrators feel are the authoritarian policies of Donald Trump.

Others took issue with the King Kylie moniker, pointing to the “No Kings” protests criticising demonstrators for rallying against what they view as President Trump’s authoritarian policies.

“To add to this, does anyone else find it odd that there have been ‘No Kings’ protests around the country, and she drops a shoot called ‘King Kylie’ with the associated imagery mentioned by OP?” one person asked.

I couldn’t help but wonder… do the Kardashian-Jenners intentionally lace their product roll-outs in controversy to amplify publicity? It just happens WAY. TOO. OFTEN.

Anywho, the song just dropped if ya wanna catch it:
