Kylian Mbappe allays France injury fears by making training return before England World Cup quarter-final

Kylian Mbappe has put to bed any doubts that he may not be fit to face England in the World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday by returning to training last night.

Mbappe had sparked speculation that he was struggling for fitness after he missed a session on Tuesday afternoon.

The superstar forward, who is currently the top scorer at the World Cup with five goals, worked inside on an exercise bike while the rest of the France squad did a session on the pitch at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in central Doha.

France had cooled talk that Mbappe was not fit and he dispelled any lingering doubts by training yesterday evening.

“He was just resting yesterday,” said France and Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.

“He had a different kind of training session to do. There was nothing worrying about that. Nothing surprising either.

“He is incredibly impressive. But I am not surprised. He has been showing this level for years. He is getting better and better. I don’t know where he can stop.

“What is impressive is his speed and tactical abilities. We are lucky he is on our team and not against us.”
