Kyler Murray vs. Patrick Mahomes in Week 1 at State Farm Stadium

The Arizona Cardinals announced their home opener ahead of the official 2022 NFL schedule release. They will start the season at home with a big interconference game.

They will play at home in Week 1 and face quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday Sept. 11 at 4:25 p.m. ET (1:25 p.m. Arizona time).

The Cardinals will be without receiver DeAndre Hopkins as that will be the start of his six-game suspension for PED use.

The game will feature two of the top young quarterbacks in the game — Kyler Murray for the Cardinals and Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs.

It will be the first time Mahomes will face his former college head coach, Kliff Kingsbury, who was head coach at Texas Tech before becoming Arizona’s head coach in 2019.

Mahomes is 1-0 in his career against the Cardinals. He and the Chiefs defeated Arizona 26-14 in 2018. Mahomes had 249 passing yards and two touchdown passes. It was his second-lowest passing outlook of the season.

Since Murray was drafted and Kingsbury became head coach, the Cardinals have not faced the Chiefs.

It will be a huge challenge for Arizona, as they will face a team that has been to two Super Bowls and four consecutive AFC Championship Games. If they can somehow come away with a win in the opener, it could set the tone for the season the way their big road win over the Tennessee Titans did last year, which was the catalyst for a 7-0 start.
