Kyle Walker wants what Liverpool have with Man City

Kyle Walker has admitted Manchester City needs to win the Champions League if they want to compete with Liverpool and Manchester United on a global level.

The Yorkshireman signed for City in 2017, moving back north after spending several years with Tottenham Hotspur.

Joining City has helped Walker add a bucket-load of domestic titles to his CV as they have dominated the domestic league and cup competitions.

But they have yet to taste the ultimate success in Europe, coming close to the Champions League prize they so desperately crave last season before falling at the final hurdle to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Walker watched on glumly as some of his fellow England internationals picked up winner's medals that night - and had done so at home two years earlier as Liverpool won the European Cup for the sixth time.

Now aged 31, time is running out for the dynamic full-back to win European club football's ultimate prize.

Walker still feels he has a few good years left in him, but is desperate to touch the Champions League trophy before he is forced to call time on his top-level career.

"I want the Champions League, I don't want to finish my career without the Champions League," he told TalkSPORT.

"The club deserves it with what we've achieved over the last years. Hopefully more Premier League titles and more silverware.

"Personally, I just want to keep playing football for as long as I can. I've said it before, until my legs tell me I have to stop then I'll stop."

Walker went on to admit that, although City are the team to beat in the Premier League thanks to their embarrassment of riches in terms of squad depth, the club cannot truly rival the likes of Liverpool and United until it has won the European Cup.

"That's what this club needs. We say it every season in the four years since I've been here," he added. "This club needs to compete with Manchester United, Liverpool. We need to go and get a Champions League.

"We were close last year. A better team won on the day. My honest feeling is the Premier League is different, it's more difficult with the 38 games you play throughout the season.

"The Champions League is 13 games to the final. For me, I want the Premier League. The Champions League is something you dream about and hopefully I can make my dreams come true this year."
