Kyle Magennis to Hibs latest as Jack Ross insists transfer is 'worth' the risk

Jack Ross is hopeful of finalising a deal for St Mirren 's Kyle Magennis on Saturday and believes he matches the profile of top scorer Kevin Nisbet.

The Hibs striker netted a brace in their 3-2 win over Hamilton with Magennis watching on from the stands.

And Ross admitted he's being signed for his potential as much what he can add immediately.

“I don't think it's quite formalised yet but I would hope it would we would have it all concluded by tomorrow morning," he said on Friday night.

“I'd be delighted and excited if we could do it.

“He's a player I gave his debut to at St Mirren and I've known him since he was a youngster. It would be a great addition for us.

“He fits the profile we had with Kevin – a young Scottish player we think can improve and growth with us and potentially benefit us too in future.

“There's always a risk with every signing but we feel everything Kyle has attribute wise is that he's worth it.”

It had been reported that Hibs had seen an offer for Crewe midfielder Ryan Wintle, but Ross poured cold water on that one.

“If we do anything else it would be out the blue. I'm pretty happy with my group,” he said. “They're a brilliant bunch of players.

“I know Ryan to be fair. He's a good player at Crewe but for us at the moment, I'm pretty satisfied where we're at..”

Meanwhile opposite number Brian Rice was disappointed with his side’s first half display in Leith, although was pleased with the way they rallied late on.

He said: “First half,  we didn’t get out the traps. We started the game on the back foot and that’s very unlike us.

“But I think you saw second half that when we’re at it, we’re not a bad team.”

Rice was without first choice goalkeeper Ryan Fulton after he tested positive for coronavirus which didn’t help.

He added: “Everything seems to happen to us. It was very disruptive. Training was canceled again but it’ll happen to us, it;ll happen to other clubs.”
