Norwegian defender Kristoffer Tonnessen has reflected on Hibs' late transfer interest in him - saying a move to the capital club would've been a "great opportunity".
With Scotland U21 left-back Doig remaining with the Hibees, a late deal for Tønnessen in the summer window never materialised.
However, despite frustrations at his displays this season, the 23-year-old Start captain is keeping his options open as he continues to harbour a desire to play abroad.
"We always knew that everything depended on [Doig] leaving. There was never any indication that a move was particularly close,” he told media in Norway.
“It would have been a great opportunity for me to play in the Scottish Premiership.
"It’s nice [to be noticed by bigger clubs] but at the same time I’m not happy with my performances so far this season.
"Hopefully I can do better in the second half of the campaign and attract the attention of even bigger clubs."
Whether or not from Jack Ross' Hibs, Start gaffer Sindre Tjelmeland expects there to be more interest in his main man, who has two years left to run on his deal with the Kristiansand club.
For the meantime, however, he is delighted to still have Tonnessen in his ranks.
"Even though we always want to give our players an opportunity to move to bigger clubs, it’s great for me as a coach that we got to keep Kris,” Tjelmeland said.
"It’s completely understandable that he wasn’t performing at his best [amid the speculation]. Now we have put a temporary end to it, he can show how important he is to the team.”
