Dallas Mavericks big man Kristaps Porzingis was back home in Latvia over the weekend when an apparent altercation broke out at a Liepaja nightclub, leaving Porzingis hurt.
Video circulated on social media on Sunday, showing Porzingis shove a woman aside as he made his way to talk with responding police officers. Porzingis, who was bleeding above his right eye, can be seen in the video speaking to the police about the incident.
The Mavericks acknowledged the incident in a statement:
Via NBA.com:
“It is our understanding that Kristaps was jumped and assaulted outside of a club.”
ESPN reports that Porzingis was confronted by several people and was attacked with an object. The altercation turned violent and left Porzingis with the cut on his head. TMZ shared video of the aftermath on Sunday.
Shortly after the trade, it was reported in March that Porzingis was being investigated for an alleged sexual assault in New York. Porzingis did not play in 2018-19 as he recovered from ACL surgery.
