Kris Commons addresses Roy Keane Celtic 'rumour' as pundit fights for Neil Lennon

Former Celtic star Kris Commons has called upon the Celtic board to stick with Neil Lennon as the pressure mounts on the under-siege Parkhead boss.

The Irishman is adamant he can turn things around but supporters are becoming increasingly miffed after a second Europa League shellacking at the hands of Sparta Prague.

The former Scotland international reckons Celtic can still come out on top this season as he believes Rangers lack of experience as frontrunners could count against them.

And Commons rubbished any suggestion that a Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane double act would be the right solution for the toiling Premiership champions.

Jim White, days after claiming Eddie Howe had been to Scotland, floated unsubstantiated rumours over a potential box-office double act to replace the 49-year-old.

But Commons was having none of it when if Lennon should earn a stay of execution, he told talkSPORT : "100 per cent. Without a shadow of a doubt (for Lennon to stay). "

And Commons also railed against The Green Brigade and believes the influential ultras group do not represent the fanbase as a whole.

But he believes summer signings such as Vasilis Barkas and Shane Duffy must get going soon to help the club in their time of need.

He added: "I think it's a minute group of supporters who did that.

"I think they are quick to forget everything Neil has done for the club in the last decade.

"Not only as a player, but as a manager.

"I honestly, hand on heart, think he's the right man for the job.

"But the players he has brought in for all this money, wages that they are spending, need to start performing and play for Celtic.

"They just don't have that mentality.

“I think they have got to stick with Neil Lennon.

"I have been in a dressing room with Neil Lennon as a manager, as a player. He is a natural leader, a born winner, and he knows Celtic inside out.”
