Kris Ajer given Celtic recognition as defender named Player of the Year by team-mates

Celtic's players have named Kris Ajer as their Player of the Year for the 2020-21 season.

It's been a difficult campaign for the Parkhead club, who started the season aiming for 10 In A Row.

Instead they lost the title to Rangers by March, with manager Neil Lennon departing the previous month.

Though the season will end without a trophy the players have named the team-mate who they think has had the best campaign.

Centre-back Ajer has been given the gong, with the result announced shortly before the final home game of the season against St Johnstone.

The 23-year-old has made 31 Premiership appearances, scoring once and providing an assist.

Though he's been named by team-mates as the player of the year, Ajer is expected to move on in the summer.

The Norwegian is out of contract in the summer of 2022, so Celtic are likely to cash in this year.

Milan have been credited with an interest in Ajer, as have the likes of Leicester City, Norwich City and Newcastle United.
